Be honest. My feelings won't be hurt if it does, I promise.
The truth is, I'm going to lay out the simple sequence of steps you need to follow immediately below, and if the light bulb DOESN'T go off after the first time you read it, I encourage you to read it again! Why? Because this approach, like ALL online strategies of scale is MORE about the "math" than the marketing (and you'll see why in a second).
The system itself I call "The Strategy of Straight Lines", and it incorporates 3 very simple steps that anyone can master.
Step 1: Articles (content very much like what you are reading here, right now)
Step 2: Opt In's (a form you use to build your subscriber base)
Step 3: Offers (what you are going to actually SELL to your subscribers to convert your community into cash)
This is a straight line strategy insofar as you don't need any gimmicks, gurus, or gadgets to make it work. To be totally honest with you, a website or blog is not even required. (although I do recommend it)
You need to START by identifying what you are going to sell. I highly recommend you base your offer around something you can control, like coaching, consulting, teaching, training or otherwise being able to parlay your PASSION into profit.
Then -
All you need to do is strive to write 3-4 articles per hour, and drive those who are interested in learning more to your sign up page. You then follow up with a "conversation" over the course of the next 10 days that creates compelling reasons for your subscribers to become customers and clients to the offer you started with in step 1.
Let me illustrate from my own business.
On December 30th, 2011, I "demonstrated" this process for a small group of my own coaching community. I wrote 4 new articles in just about an hour. (it took me about 80 minutes, but that included watching a pretty compelling Judge Judy re-run in the background)
Those 4 articles generated about 190 readers.
Of those 190 readers, about 65 visited my landing page.
And of those 65, about 1/3, or 22... actually signed up for my list, JUST in the last 5 days.
So 1 hour yielded about 22 new subscribers so far.
In my own business, each subscriber generated through "blind" traffic is worth about 12 dollars to me long term, MINIMUM (in 2012, I'm striving to improve my offers in such a way as the value to both my business, and my readers is MUCH higher as well),
But, just using basic historically m
etrics, I can reliably predict that those 22 people will generate $250 for my business, either through coaching, or buying tools I recommend, or even helping evangelize my blog, my brand and my business to THEIR friends, fans, followers.
It really is that easy.
Pick your PASSION, and create a coaching, consulting, teaching or training offer around what you LOVE.
And then follow the 3 steps each and every day for a month (no excuses... new content every day is critical).
Focus on MATH, as much as marketing.
Your list will continue to grow.
Your Content will continue to spread. And CONFIDENCE, your authority and your expertise will extend to areas you won't believe.
